Philosophical Position

The Bible is God’s Word.

All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness (2 Timothy 3:16).

Knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation, for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit (2 Peter 1:20-21).

Mankind is Intended to Understand God’s Word.

The secret things belong to the LORD our God, but those things which are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law (Deuteronomy 29:29).

God’s Word Equals Truth.

Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth (John 17:17).

It is impossible for God to lie (Hebrews 6:18).

Observing Truth Results in Blessing; Violating Truth Results in Cursing.

I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live (Deuteronomy 30:19). [Comments: These Words were given to and for the nation of Israel, but the principle applies to Christians in the Church as evidenced by Ephesians 6:1-3, Galatians 6:7-8, and other New Testament passages. These verses clearly declare that it is to man’s benefit to learn and to follow God’s Word.] Note: The Preface of FBR’s academic textbook, Philosophy and Methodology: Bible-Based Hermeneutics provides a more complete explanation of why this author believes the Bible is man’s only reliable source of information by which he can live successfully.

Mankind Exists as a Creation of God.

So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them (Genesis 1:27).

God Has Provided for Mankind’s Physical Needs.

Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” And God said, “See, I have given you every herb that yields seed which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree whose fruit yields seed; to you it shall be for food” (Genesis 1:28-29).

God Has Also Provided Mankind’s Needs for His Soul and Spirit.

But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God'” (Matthew 4:4).

Man has the need to understand his own soul, to know how to relate to other human beings, and to know his proper relationship with the physical universe. He also has the need to understand his spiritual relationship with His Creator God. He needs to know where he came from, where he is going, who he is, and why he exists. Man is totally dependent on God for soul and spiritual knowledge. He cannot discover the principles that govern the soul or the spirit apart from the information that God has provided.
