The Three Facets of Volume II

This is the second of a three-volume, grammatically-technical commentary (or systematic Bible study) of key categories of doctrine. These doctrines have been substantiated or developed solely by Scripture.

Facet Two: The relationship of a believer to unbelievers as a Beacon pointing to Christ.

Facet Three: The relationship between believers in Ministry.

Facet Four: The relationship of a believer as Conqueror over Satan and the thinking and wisdom of the world.

Description of Each

  • Facet Two of the balanced Christian life describes the relationship each believer should have with those outside the family of God (i.e., unbelievers). The primary function of this facet should be to act as a Beacon, focusing light on Jesus Christ by (1) expressing love for unbelievers by following God’s Commandments concerning how a believer should treat all fellow human beings, (2) by living life before them as an open testimony/witness/evidence of a believer’s confidence in God’s Promises, Wisdom, and Power, and (3) by being always prepared (knowledgeable of God’s Word) and eager to state the reasons for his confidence to those who truly desire to have that information. (See, Matthew 5:13-16; 2 Corinthians 4:6; Philippians 2:15; and 1 Peter 3:15.)
  • Facet Three of the balanced Christian life describes the relationship each believer should have toward every other believer with whom he has contact. This facet is that of Ministering to other believers and receiving Ministering from fellow believers. The function of this facet includes the mutual sharing of Spiritual gifts (such as the gifts of teaching, helping, and administrating) among believers. It is partially through this ministering, based on God’s Supernatural motivating and energizing a believer to make a personal sacrifice for the benefit of another, that a believer gives open testimony about God’s love to the unbeliever. This love is also expressed by believers following each of God’s written commandments concerning how we should treat all human beings, particularly those commands directed specifically toward other members of the family of God. Those laws specific to believers include supporting church elders financially and submitting to their Biblical teaching. It also includes serving other Christians with encouragement (comfort and exhortation) and, when necessary, exercising church discipline. (See Romans 12:4-8; 1 Corinthians 12:4-11; and 1 Peter 4:10.)
  • Facet Four of the balanced Christian life describes the believer’s role as a Conqueror over all the forces that oppose God. In my opinion, this is the area where many Christians fail because of their ignorance of Satan’s position, power, plan, and tactics. This facet will explain how each believer can potentially exercise victory over God’s enemies while here on earth. (See Romans 12:21; 1 John 5:4-5; and 1 John 2:13-14.)

Reviews On Volume II

Every believer is related in various ways to nonbelievers, other believers, Satan, and the evil world system. Believers need to understand what is involved in those relationships in order to mature spiritually. Mr. Fugate has spelled out those relationships effectively by showing how the Scriptures relate to these issues. This is an important work that should be read and heeded by believers.

Dr. Roy B. Zuck, Senior Professor Emeritus of Bible Exposition, Dallas Theological Exposition, and Editor, Bibliotheca Sacra.

Volume Two relates the believer-priest to the world of unbelievers, to the church (fellow-believers), and to human governments-even to the enemies of God (the devil and his angels).
